Del Perro - Julian Kimmings 2010
A new canvas I finished a while ago for something that didn’t come off so I thought I’d share it here.
The name comes from a phrase I heard ‘el poder del perro’ which translated means ‘power of the dog’ or ‘dog power’ which was used a lot in the 80’s by South American drug gangs.
‘Del Perro’ 2010
70×100cm
Aerosol, acrylic and ink on a ‘chunky’ canvas
It will be available to buy very soon.
Last weekend saw around 14 urban artists invade the sleepy Georgian village of Woburn in Bedfordshire. I actually didn’t know where Woburn was until the week before when Ben Slow invited me along to take part in a group exhibition and a weekend of painting, all organised by the very nice owners of the Bedford Street Gallery.
It was a great weekend with equally great artists. Johann and John from the gallery, along with the local villagers made all the artists feel very welcome and made the entire weekend a pleasure.
Unfortunately my camera failed, so I don’t have images of the full show (below is the painting I did over the weekend. Yes, it’s on a shed).
I still have one painting available from the gallery (Flickr link).
Visit the Gallery Facebook Page for images of the weekend unfolding.

I have recently updated my website – kimmings.co.uk – with 2010 available canvases for sale. I’ll be adding more over the coming weeks.
If you’ve seen artwork that isn’t available on the site, or would like to discuss a future commission (or would just like to off-load or vent) please contact me.

The Liar - 2010
I always turn a painting upside down to make sure it looks ok. It’s the best way for me to know if it’ll work.
Sometimes all you need is to spend 10 minutes on something to turn it around and put it back on track.

Berry - Julian Kimmings 2010
I’m writing this at home after a four hour drive back from Bristol and I’m completely exhausted. I’ve met some awesome people again, put a few faces to names, and caught up with many of the guys I met last year. The weekend started at full pace with the opening of Urban view at View Art Gallery in Bristol (free Brothers Cider and some inebriated antics outside the bar opposite afterwards) followed with an all day paint session in stifling heat with a strong hangover. It ended with a walk about on Sunday just chatting and saying goodbye to folk.
I was blown away yet again by all the kind words or praise by the many people (some of whom I’ve admired for 18 years) that came over to say hello. If you did, thank you, you made the day more pleasurable and if I wasn’t too talkative at times, I apologise – there were times when I just wanted to paint.
If you’re in Bristol, please take time to check out my artwork at View Gallery and if something takes your fancy I won’t object to you buying something.

So I broke my ‘duck’ for 2010 with these small canvases for the Grafik Warefare show at Graffik London this weekend (26-28 February).
Hope you like them. If you’re near Portobello Road this weekend go have a look. www.graffiklondon.co.uk
Thursday was Doodleplanet night at Telfords Warehouse in Chester. This time I joined forces with David Setter for a bit of tag-team doodling. The rules were simple… 30 minutes each and then hand over to your team member. It was good fun and meant that a) we both finished and b) we also had some time to socialise a little. Normally I find I spend the whole night transfixed in the artwork and hardly talk to anyone. Below is a shot of David at work. You can see more here.
